The Siren

‘The Siren’ is a life size holographic 3D projection, filmed entirely underwater, exploring the nature of the feminine mystic within the screen and the seemingly active male gaze. It explores the notion that, cast out from the patriarchal social order of Man, Woman “does not exist and symbolises nothing” (Lacan, 1972) but is simply a sexed being for the benefit of Man. The aim of the piece is to explore how Woman or the Other is both alluring and terrifying, embodying the duel nature of all women throughout time.”

The film is the work of Laura Jean Healey, a Fine Arts graduate from Central St. Martins College of Art and Design. More on the project can be found over at Wired.
