In 1999 and 2000 the first two volumes of a three-part French comic, Le passage de Vénus, were published, portraying Louis-Antoine de Bougainville’s 1766 voyage around the world and his relationship with his female assistant Jeanne Baré. Due to the death of the artist, Jean-Paul Dethorey, in 1999, the second part was incomplete, the intended third never begun.
